The history of Dammann Reitplatz- und Sportplatzbau GmbH
In the 1990s, Klaus Dammann intensively addressed a question that is of central importance for equestrian sports and riding facilities: What does the ideal riding surface look like?
Klaus Dammann was a trained horticultural technician and had gained valuable experience in national and international gardening and landscaping over decades. He combined his expertise with his passion for horses, because as a horse breeder and operator of an equestrian center, he knew the importance of high-quality riding surfaces for equestrian sports.
The solution was the development of the Risohorse® ebb and flow riding surface system.
The innovative concept was based on a principle that had long been established in the horticultural industry: the ebb and flow system, which enables uniform watering of plants. So why not adapt this principle to the specific requirements of equestrian sports? The aim was to ensure consistent basic moisture in the footing layer, thereby improving the usability and durability of the riding surface.
The first Risohorse® ebb and flow riding surface was developed and successfully tested at the company's own riding facility in the late 1990s. This innovation set new standards in riding arena technology and became established on both the German and international markets.
Following the death of Klaus Dammann in 2023, the company will be continued by his daughter Ilka Tigges – who has been with the company since 2004 and has been managing director since 2020 – together with Janusz Wiechecki. This means that Dammann Reitplatz- und Sportplatzbau GmbH remains in experienced and technically skilled hands.

Our range of services – quality right from the start
Our comprehensive range of services covers everything from creating the fine subgrade to professionally applying and working in the surface layer. We use only high-quality materials – from membranes, drainage pipes, and shafts to pumps, riding arena control systems, small materials, and aggregates for the surface layer. All components meet the highest quality standards and are optimally coordinated with each other.
For the surface layer, we only use specially selected sands that meet the strict requirements of the Risohorse® ebb and flow system. Our goal is to offer you not only a functional riding surface, but also one that is durable and perfectly coordinated.
We are happy to assist you right from the planning phase, whether it's creating a rough plan or detailed planning for your riding surface. Once your riding surface is complete, we offer services to ensure that it remains in good condition for years to come.

Construction services throughout Europe by Wiechecki & Equisystem
Janusz Wiechecki – an indispensable part of the company since its foundation, a proven expert and driving force in the operational area. For personal reasons, he returned to Poland in the 2000s. Since then, we have been working closely with the Polish company Wiechecki. This experienced company brings many years of expertise in riding arena and sports field construction and ensures precise implementation of the construction work on site. Thanks to this collaboration, we can guarantee you professional construction and on-time completion.
Other partnerships
Sebastian Adams, an experienced rider and owner of a tournament, training, and trading stable, has been our new partner as brand ambassador since 2024.
In Henric Borgström from Trädgårdsteknik i Mellansverige AB, S - 70236 Örebro in Sweden, we have found a partner since 2020 who works closely with us to implement our idea of an optimal riding surface in the Scandinavian countries.
We are proud of our close cooperation since 2012 with Centro Ecuestre Oliva Nova, which organizes the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour (MET). We have been involved from the very beginning and have been able to act as a reliable partner in the ongoing development of the riding facility and in the maintenance of the riding arenas, both in an executive and advisory capacity.
